The Calliope Of The Future (USA)
The Calliope of the Future is an irreverent, vaudevillian, apocalyptic steam punk band from Denver, USA. It is composed of Tovio Roberts (on accordion) and Kayne Shanahan (on Glockenspiel/Pandeiro).
The band’s name Calliope refers simultaneously to the Greek muse of heroic poetry and to an unusual, giant musical instrument that produces noise by sending steam through train whistles. The Calliope of the Future tell stories— tall and not so tall— about the American dream, which feature science fiction lyrics that sound like they could have been composed by “the bastard children of HP Lovecraft and Dr. Seuss”.
