Dolorosa De La Cuz
Line drawings and watercolours, about desire and detail, erotic and trance–like states influenced by Surrealists automatism, mainly the work of Unica Zurn and Toyen. Repetitive and automatic movements with self–portraits in dream landscapes and random sentences remembered. Sigils, mantras, rituals, expressed in sexual and biological energy and symbolism, influenced by Austin Osman Spare.
He began as a jazz pianist in several bands and likes playing Thelonious Monk’s tunes and songs. Now he is a trombonist in several bands— Le Grotorkestre , La Baskour , L’Ogre and Les Arcandiers. Encounters with Joelle Leandre, Sebastien Coste, the Ishtar collective and others have encouraged him to become a proficient practicioner of improvisation. He likes being involved in musical collaborations with dancers, writters, painters and artisans.
Recently he’s been working a lot with Cyril Epinat (guitarist) in DUO… and Skratroum (dance, skateboarding and radio with Emilie Borgo). They both perform with Leo Dumont (drummer) and Li Ping Ting (dancer).
He loves improvising with people from the Ishtar Collective in Masal Caldi (12 musicians) and Le pire c’est une poire qui prend l eau (with Anne Pellier and Eddy Kowalski) or with Xavier Saïki in Sapiens. With Leo Dumont, Cyril Epinat and Thierry Moulat he created the MICRO association to promote improvisation throughout the organisation of several concerts, projects, performances, in the vicinities of Roanne and the Cote Roannaise.
